Music at Morris Academy is a lot of fun! All students learn to be musicians through singing, playing instruments, and creating together.
Our music room is a wonderful spacious and well equipped room with built in choral risers and a wealth of instrumental and manipulative resources. We have Class sets of many different instruments including Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels and contrabass bars), drums (tubanos, djembes, congas, bongos, and hand drums), and a wide variety of rhythm instruments such as maracas, triangles, sand blocks, wood blocks, spoons, tambourines, cabasas, and castanets. We also have other fun-to-learn contemporary instruments such as the Boomwhackers.
Students in Grade Four learn to play the recorder as part of their curriculum. The recorder enables them to have practical experience of applying their musical literacy in note reading. Each student will receive a cloth drawstring bag from the school containing their recorder supplies. The bag is to returned at the end of the year.
All of our students experience the joy of the choral experience with our built in choir program. Each grade level from one to four experiences singing in a choir and are featured in a selected assembly or concert throughout the year. Details on our performances are sent in memos and newsletters throughout the year. Students in grades three and four are provided with a red Morris Academy Choir Tshirt during performances. Parents of students in grades 3 & 4 are asked to provide your child with black pants / skirts to complete the uniform.
Stay tuned for special information about music classes, assemblies, concerts and other special performances and events! We are looking forward to another wonderful year of music making!
